Wow- time flies during the holiday season. It has been a couple of weeks since our November 22 meeting featuring Holiday traditions and I am just now writing about all of the wonderful things we talked about. We had the pleasure of hearing Jenni Harms share about the traditions in her Mennonite family. Jenni has become the "keeper of traditions" in her family, a role that I think is important for our generation to fill in order to connect our children with the rich heritage they come from. In many homes traditions come in the form of food, and this is no different in the German/Russian Mennonite homes. Zwieback, cherry moos, verenika, sausage, just to name a few.
When Jenny finished sharing we has a chance to share with our small groups about some of our favorite holiday memories and traditions. Many shared about using Advent calendars, the story of the Jesse tree, and various books that are a part of their holiday season. A book that I plan to check out is Santa Claus, are you for Real? We debated (nicely) about how Santa is presented in our homes. I throughly enjoyed hearing traditions from many other families and reflecting back on the traditions started in my home growing up.

See you next week for our Holiday Brunch! Looking forward to our time together
