Will Christmas Be Different This Year?

Christmas keeps coming to my mind – no surprise why, but my thoughts have a different focus. In December of last year, I posted a note to my FB page and the Mom’s Carelink blog about the Advent Conspiracy, http://www.adventconspiracy.org/, a series of sermons shared in many churches last November. The key components are:

Worship Fully
Spend Less
Give More
Love All

I fell in love with the idea of Christmas not being so wrapped up in the stuff. My heart was convicted regarding the way I spent my time and money “on Christmas”, but realizing so much of it had nothing to do with the birth of my Savior or the things that matter to God.

I had been told too late. I was in the throes of all the madness and felt it was too late to turn back. I promised myself I would make a change next year. And next year is here already! I’m standing on the ledge about to take the plunge into the holiday black hole…

How is it going to be different this year?

Less stress.
Gifts of presence.
Fewer commitments.
Christ at the center.
Give to those who need.

I’m not expecting it to be easy. I don’t even know what we’re going to do differently. We’ve been “doing Christmas” this way all my life. Change a little at a time. We’ll have to be intentional or the current will take us on the usual ride

  1. Tiffany, thank you for reminding me of last years message. It made such an impact in my heart last year, and yet I had already forgotten about it. Thank you for sharing what is on your heart so that others can be inspired and encouraged to turn to the real purpose of Christmas: Christ!
