Outreach Selection for 2011-12: Lady Bugg House

Every year we try to think of some way our group of women can minister to others, especially other moms. We have tried to "adopt" moms from within our Carelink groups over the years. Last year we made a focused effort to support a single mom from First MB.

This year we have decided to support a ministry that's just getting off the ground here in Wichita, the Lady Bugg House. You can read about the ministry at http://www.ladybugghouse.com/. Their primary purpose is to support young moms (16-23 year olds) who have little or no means to support themselves on their own. Through this ministry, they learn life skills, parenting skills, attend church and follow other requirements. Lady Bugg House can accomodate ten women in their resident program and also have a non-resident program. They bought a home near Hillside and 13th a year ago and have been renovating it and preparing for their first girls late this summer.

Michelle Pittman is the founder of the ministry and will be speaking at the First MB Women's Fall Connection Event on October 11th. (I'll blog post more on that later). I've spoken to her a couple times and have visited the house and here's how we've decided to help Lady Bugg House this year...

Prayer - Prayer is powerful! As I receive prayer requests from the Lady Bugg House, I'll share one or two in our group meetings and hope we all can give some focused prayer to the ministry and the women receiving support.

Christmas Gift Shower - Our guest speakers for both Morning & Evening Carelink meetings in December will be someone from the Lady Bugg House. We want to bless them with a "shower of gifts" to take back to the house after our meeting. So, we will be sharing a list of needed items for those interested in bringing something to donate on December 13th!

Fellowship Night Meal - On March 13, 2012, Mom's Carelink will be providing the meal that serves about 100 Young Life youth that meet at Lady Bugg House once a month for a special fellowship evening. We are planning to provide a Pasta Bar and will be ironing out the details and sign-up lists after the first of the year. We will need volunteers to make or buy sauce, salad & desserts, purchase pasta & bread and a few ladies who are able to go set-up & serve from 5-7pm that evening.
