Advent Conspiracy

Anyone heard of the Advent Conspiracy? I know a few MB churches in the conference are going through the series this Christmas season. It sounds a lot like what Pastor Brent at First MB Church is going to walk us through as well, Live. Give. Go. Summarized, Pastor Brent's series is: Let's live out Christ' love through time in relationships this season. Let's give financially to help people here and around the world. Let's go do something for others this Christmas season.

A friend of mine posted some thoughts on celebrating Jesus' birth and she wrote, "How do I celebrate His birth? For our kids we think about what they would like for their birthdays. For Jesus we should think about what HE would like for HIS birthday."

I'm not sure I've EVER sat down after Thanksgiving and asked myself, "I wonder what God would like me to do this advent season? How would He want me to spend this month leading up to Christmas? On what would He want me to expend my energy?"

I'd have to say I've disappointed Him over the years with my focus on the gift shopping, Christmas partying, tree buying, home decorating, cookie exchanging, gift listings and "I want-ings". It makes me tired just writing it out!

I hope this year I will take some time to reduce the crazy stuff and add in more of the important things that would make Jesus smile! Let's GIVE PRESENCE this year instead of presents :-)
